Norman Colby, PG, CHg - Principal Hydrogeologist

Mr. Colby has over 20 years of experience performing hydrogeologic investigations for groundwater contamination and water resource issues.  He is a professional geologist in California, Washington and Wyoming and certified hydrogeologist in California.  Mr. Colby provides project management and technical expertise on projects related to contaminant hydrogeology, modeling, aquifer remediation, groundwater resources and the environmental impact of hazardous materials for a wide range of clients.  Mr. Colby specializes in computer modeling of groundwater flow and solute transport using a variety of modeling codes (MODFLOW, MT3D, SEEP/W, etc.) for projects involving groundwater resource management, remediation and cost allocation.  Mr. Colby often works as part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, hydrologists and chemists to produce innovative and cost-effective solutions to environmental problems.

Mr. Colby has prepared many expert reports and developed computer models in support of litigation involving the impact of hazardous materials and groundwater resources and was recently retained as an expert regarding chlorinated solvent issues for litigation.  His broad experience includes remedial investigations and modeling of state and federal Superfund sites, industrial facilities, landfills and underground storage tank sites.  Mr. Colby has performed all phases of site investigations including drilling, lithologic logging, CPT testing, borehole geophysical logging, soil gas testing, groundwater sampling and data interpretation.  In addition, he has extensive experience in planning and performing aquifer tests, step-drawdown tests and packer tests in a variety of geologic environments.

Mr. Colby earned his B.S. in Geology from Kent State University and his M.S. in Geology from Miami University.  He has successfully completed numerous short courses in computer modeling, geostatistics, geochemistry and site characterization.  Mr. Colby has authored numerous technical publications and has presented papers at conferences across the country.
